Doubt is a natural part of every person’s experience. Whether it’s about life’s big questions, our purpose, or even smaller daily decisions, everyone grapples with uncertainty at some point. However, this struggle can be an opportunity for growth and deeper understanding. Overcoming doubt and finding faith in the midst of uncertainty can be a transformative process that enriches our lives.

“Doubting Thomas”

Throughout history, we see many individuals who have faced doubt. One biblical story is about Thomas, a follower of Jesus. After hearing that Jesus had risen from the dead, Thomas was unsure if it was true. He wanted proof, saying, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Jesus responded to Thomas’ doubt with compassion. He kindly appeared to Thomas, showing him his wounds and inviting him to touch them. This encounter turned Thomas’ doubt into a strong declaration of faith.

This story shows that questioning and seeking evidence is a natural part of the faith journey. It’s about meeting doubt with understanding and finding reassurance through exploration and experience. We all have questions, and aren’t sure about some things, but as we build a relationship with Jesus, he begins to make things clearer for us.

How Do I Build My Faith?

  1. Reflect and Meditate: Take time each day to reflect on your thoughts and feelings. Meditation or prayer can help clear your mind and bring a sense of peace and clarity. Talk to God out loud or write prayers in a journal to share your doubts.
  2. Read the Bible: Reading the Bible can provide wisdom and guidance. Delving into stories of faith and resilience can strengthen your own beliefs. If you aren’t wanting to dive straight into the Bible, check out a kids’ version such as the Storybook Bible or a more contemporary translation of the Bible, such as the Message, to help you better understand some of the language and stories in the Bible itself.
  3. Seek Guidance: Talk to people you trust, such as mentors, friends, or family members. Sharing your doubts and discussing them can offer new perspectives and insights. Don’t be afraid to share your doubts; often those God puts in our lives have struggled with similar things.
  4. Ask Questions: Use your doubts as opportunities to learn. Asking questions and seeking answers can lead to a deeper understanding and stronger faith. Attending a local Bible believing church is also a great place to ask questions and get answers. Embracing Doubt

Doubt should not be seen as a failure but as a stepping stone toward deeper understanding and stronger belief. Facing uncertainties compels us to seek answers, and in that search, we often find a better connection to our beliefs. We are also able to remind ourselves of those truths we found if those doubts should ever rise up again.

In moments of doubt, give yourself grace, remembering that seeking and asking questions is a natural part of the journey. It’s through this process that we often find the answers and reassurance we need.Ready to go deeper in your faith, but don’t own a Bible? We would love to send you one.
