There are many ways people describe Jesus. When people think of him, they often picture a wise teacher, a kind man who helped the poor, or even just a religious character. While those things are part of His story, they don’t come close to capturing the full picture. Jesus wasn’t just a good man; He made some bold, life-changing claims about Himself that force us to look deeper. So, who is Jesus, really?
Let’s start with what Jesus said about Himself. He didn’t just claim to know the way to God; He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). That’s not just advice from a wise teacher. That’s a claim to be the only path to eternal life.
He also said, “Before Abraham was born, I am” (John 8:58). That’s a direct reference to God’s own name in the Old Testament, when God told Moses, “I AM who I AM” (Exodus 3:14). The people listening to Jesus back then knew exactly what He meant. That’s why they picked up stones to kill Him. He was claiming to be God Himself.
C.S. Lewis, a famous author and former atheist, put it this way: Jesus didn’t leave us the option of calling Him just a great moral teacher. Based on His claims, Jesus is either a liar, a lunatic… or He really is Lord.
What’s amazing is, Jesus backed up His claims, not just with words, but with actions. He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and even raised the dead. What was His greatest proof? His resurrection. After being crucified and buried, Jesus rose from the dead three days later, just as He said He would. Hundreds of people saw Him alive, and that single event turned scared fishermen into bold preachers who changed the world.
So, why does this still matter?
Because if Jesus really is who He says He is, God in human form, then what He said about life, death, and eternity carries ultimate truth. He came not just to teach us how to live, but to save us from sin and reconnect us with God. He offers grace, forgiveness, and eternal life, not as a reward for being good enough, but as a gift to anyone who believes.
Maybe you’ve been searching for truth, purpose, or peace. Maybe you’ve been hurt by religion or unsure what to believe. But if Jesus is truly God, then knowing Him changes everything. He’s not just a figure from the past; He’s alive, and He wants a relationship with you today.
Don’t just rely on what others say; take time to explore it for yourself. Look into His words in the Bible. Ask the big questions because the answer to “Who is Jesus?” just might change your life.
