Turn on the news for five minutes, and it’s easy to feel anxious. Violence. Division. Economic uncertainty. Natural disasters. The constant stream of breaking headlines can leave us asking, “What is happening to our world?”
And deeper than that: What is going to happen to me?
Many people carry quiet fears about the future.
– Will I make the right decisions?
– Will I have enough?
– What if I fail?
– What if something tragic happens?
The truth is, we are not in control as much as we would like to be, and that realization can either produce anxiety, or it can lead us to faith.
The Fear of the Unknown
Uncertainty is uncomfortable because we crave security. We want a clear five-year plan. We want guarantees that everything will work out exactly as we hope.
However, Scripture reminds us that our peace was never meant to come from predictable circumstances. It comes from a trustworthy God.
Proverbs 3:5–6 says:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Notice it doesn’t say we will understand everything. It doesn’t say everything will turn out perfect, and we won’t have any troubles. It says we are called to trust.
God Sees What We Cannot
One of the most comforting truths of the Christian faith is this: God sees the whole picture. We see moments. He sees eternity.
Romans 8:28 reminds us that “in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.” That doesn’t mean every situation feels good. It means nothing is wasted in His hands.
Even seasons of confusion, delay, or difficulty can be shaping something deeper in us: character, faith, perseverance and compassion.
God is not reacting to the chaos of the world. He is sovereign over it.
Perfect Love Drives Out Fear
Much of our fear about the future is rooted in a deeper question: “Does God really care about me?”
The cross answers that. Romans 5:8 tells us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. If God loved us enough to give His Son for our salvation, we can trust that He will not abandon us tomorrow.
Faith doesn’t mean pretending the world isn’t broken. It means anchoring your heart to the One who is unshaken by it.
Peace in a Chaotic World
You may not know what next year holds. You may not know how every prayer will be answered. However, you can know the character of the One who holds your future.
He is faithful.
He is just.
He is loving.
He is in control.
When we place our future in God’s hands, we exchange anxiety for peace. Not because everything becomes certain, but because He is certain.
